My Top 5 Simply Red Songs
Bio from Wiki: – Simply Red is an English soul and pop band that sold more than 50 million albums over a 25-year career. Their style drew upon influences ranging from blue-eyed soul, New Romantic and rock to reggae and jazz. From their early days, the main driving force behind the band was singer Mick Hucknall, who, by the time the band was disbanded in 2010, was the only original member left. At the 1992 and 1993 Brit Awards, they received the award for Best British Group.
I do not claim to be a massive Simply Red fan, but I do love the band’s music. Here are my favourite top 5 Simply Red songs, which I would also recommend to first time listeners – highly recommended listening!
I love this track because it’s was cleverly mixed with the Hall & Oats song “I Can’t Go For That” – great one!
Holding Back The Years (1985/86)
Wow, superb vocals from Mick Hucknall! This song was one of the band’s big hits which made #2 in the UK charts and #1 in the Irish and US Charts in 1986.
Another a great song from the band which was a #1 hit in the UK in 1995 – I love the Brazilian beats in this dance track!
It’s Only Love (1989)
I love the composition and production in this song – you don’t get this high level of sophistication in today’s music – what a shame!
Something Got Me Started (1991)
Fantastic song! 🙂
